Casaundra Freeman (Director): Casaundra Freeman is an actor, director, member of Actor’s Equity, National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA), Audio Publishers Association (APA) and the founder of Work With Your Voice – Black Woman Edition (BWE). She’s also a world-schooling mom of two teens who is primarily based in Mexico. Casaundra is a 25-year veteran of the stage and vocal booth. As a stage actor, she’s been a company member and resident artist at countless theatres such as The Purple Rose, Alabama Shakespeare Festival and of course here, her creative home, The Detroit Repertory Theatre. She has starred in and won awards for her work in many productions. As a director she has guided plays such as Williston, Who Will Sing for Lena, Flyin’ West, The Safe House, The Mountaintop and Pass Over. After relocating to Mexico she has focused solely on voice acting and in the fall of 2023 founded BWE after deciding she wanted to give other Black women the opportunity to access the artistic, financial, and location freedom she found through the medium of voiceover. As a voice actor she’s voiced hundreds of projects for commercials, e-learning, and corporate narration. She’s currently the voice of the Detroit Medical Center, the narrator of several audiobooks, including The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin and has recently completed Audio Description training with the Audio Description Institute, Descriptathon 10 and Dark Room Ballet’s Audio Description for dance, and will soon begin work on Audio Description for an upcoming studio film. She’s over the moon to return home to the Detroit Rep and guide this wonderful piece.
