A limited number of Rush Standby Tickets for the remaining performances for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom are available at EVERY performance.
Rush Tickets cannot be purchased in advance. You must be present in the lobby on the day of the performance. Tickets will be disbursed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Check in at the lobby box office to put your name on the standby list. Be patient and enjoy the lobby’s bar and kitchen while you wait. Closer to showtime, when we have a read on no-shows and extra empty seats in the theatre, we sell tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier you arrive, the better chance you have of getting a seat.
Hot music. Hotter tempers.
January 10 - March 2, 2025
Written by August Wilson
Directed by Casaundra Freeman
In a rundown Chicago recording studio in 1927, tempers rise and simmering conflicts erupt when the “Mother of the Blues” and her band record a set of jazz and blues standards.
Fiery and determined, Ma Rainey fights to retain control over her music, while her cocky trumpet player Levee dreams of making his own name in the business. More than music goes down in August Wilson’s riveting portrayal of rage, racism, self-hatred, and exploitation.
